Experienced an Accident? Here’s What to Do.
1.
As hard as it may be, try to stay calm. Everything will be OK - we promise.
2.
Attend to yourself and passengers first, doing a quick body scan to assess any major or minor injuries. Take note of anything that doesn’t feel right - using your phone to record a video or voice note can be a helpful tool.
3.
Do not leave the scene of the accident. You’ll need to call and wait for the authorities to arrive. If possible, record the license plate(s) of any other vehicles involved in the collision right away. This can become vital information if the other driver(s) unexpectedly flee the scene. No matter how small or major the accident, it’s advised to call for help.
4.
If the damage is minor, you can move to safety either to the side of the road or into a parking lot. If it’s a more serious accident, do not move the vehicles.

Collect as much information as possible, including:
- a. The first and last name of the other driver(s)
- b. Insurance information (policy number and insurance company)
- c. Driver’s license number of the driver(s) involved
- d. The make, model, colour, and license plate of the car(s) involved
- e. Location and time of the accident
- f. Names and badge numbers of police and emergency responders
5.
Collect as much information as possible, including:
a. The first and last name of the other driver(s)
b. Insurance information
(policy number and insurance company)
c. Driver’s license number of the
driver(s) involved
d. The make, model, colour,
and license plate of the car(s) involved
e. Location and time of the accident
f. Names and badge numbers of police and emergency responders

If you’re able, take photos of the scene and any vehicle damages. This is also a great time to record a statement from witnesses.

Once the authorities give you the go-ahead to leave the scene, you can either drive home and call us straight away at (250) 365-1041, or remove your belongings and have your vehicle towed to Kalawsky Collision Centre at 2308 6 Ave. in Castlegar, BC.

Take a deep breath - you’re in good hands. At this point, we’ll notify your insurer and begin the claims process, plus assess the state of your vehicle so we can prepare a repair estimate. We can also help you secure a rental vehicle that meets the criteria of your insurer at this time.
Why We’re Proud to be a Tier 1
ICBC Accredited Collision Centre
All qualifying auto body shops start in the ICBC’s tiered program at a baseline of “zero.” Key performance indicators (KPIs) are tracked for all body shops in the program, and at the end of every 12 months, these shops are granted either Tier 2 or Tier 1 status. When the KPIs are analyzed, only the top 20% of repair facilities will be given ICBC Tier 1 status, while the rest remain at Tier 2.
Repair centres need to be truly remarkable to achieve Tier 1 certification, which is why Kalawsky Collision is so proud to be one of the few Tier 1 ICBC Accredited Body Shops in the entire West Kootenay region.
